PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY AND JAMES LYNG HIGH SCHOOL
A Concordia student in Leisure Studies implemented more physical and sports-related activities to promote a healthier lifestyle among the students at James Lyng high school.
The sports project coordinator created basketball, soccer and rock-climbing teams for students of James Lyng. 40 students participated in our sports activities.
ACTIVITES THAT ENCOURAGE HEALTHY LIFESTYLES
During the 2008-2009 school year, James Lyng students participated in several activities that encouraged them to stay physically active.
One of the issues at James Lyng was that female students did not have enough sport activities. Therefore, our project coordinator created all-girl soccer and basketball teams to incite them to become more active. Basketball and hockey tournaments were implemented for the boys.
James Lyng students also showed a great interest in participating in rock-climbing activities. Our project coordinator organized weekly field trips to Allez-Up, a centre where the students had the opportunity to rock-climb in a safe, supervised environment.
The impact of these activities was very positive for the students, as they increased their sense of well being at the physical, psychological and social levels.
