PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY AND PIERRE-DUPUY HIGH SCHOOL

In collaboration with the music teacher, our music project coordinator was responsible for helping the students of Pierre-Dupuy High School during their in-class and extra-curricular music lessons. Moreover, he was in charge of organizing an end-of-year musical show, in collaboration with the school’s drama teacher.

MUSIC CLASSES
The project coordinator gave one-hour private music lessons, from Monday to Friday, during 14 weeks. About 30 students participated in these lessons.

THE SHOW
About 50 students participated in the musical show, which took place on May 19th 2009, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Pierre-Dupuy. It was a great success for the students. About 400 people attended the show: parents, students, people from the community, and representatives from the City of Montreal, the Ville-Marie borough and the School Board. Due to the high participation rate and the motivation among the students, we decided to grant seven awards to deserving students.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Visit to the Montreal Opera
Mr. Pierre Dufour, the General Director of the Montreal Opera, invited 25 music students to attend the dress rehearsal of their recent show, Aleacanto.

Conference of Mr. Dufour from the Montreal Opera
Mr. Dufour gave a presentation during a music class at Pierre-Dupuy. He talked about various aspects of his profession, including his responsibilities, experiences and objectives. He also showed a 20-minute DVD on all the technical and artistic aspects of the Montreal Opera. His presentation sparked the students’ curiosity. These two activities were possible thanks to the collaboration of the SDSVM.
